The Koshi Earth Symphony Set of 4 contains all four chimes of the new Koshi collection: Mountain in walnut, Forest in oak, River in cherry and Ocean in maple, each with 12 hand-tuned steel rods at 440 Hz, handmade in France. Handcrafted and hand-tuned in the Koshi workshop at the foot of the French Pyrenees.
Earth Symphony is a departure from the original Koshi 4 Elements line. Each chime carries twelve hand-tuned steel rods instead of eight, four of them doubled at the same frequency as sympathetic resonators, and the resonance chamber is turned from fine wood rather than bamboo. The tuning reference is 440 Hz. The result is a broader, deeper and noticeably longer resonance.
The four melodies were designed to be played alone or in dialogue with one another. They share the same harmonic coherence, so any combination stays in harmony, and together they compose a broad, deep and living soundscape that no single chime can produce on its own.

How to use the Earth Symphony set
Basic playing: hold a chime by its cord and let it hang freely. A gentle turn of the wrist lets the central clapper set the rods in motion and release a cascade of broad, deep notes. The wider the movement, the more rods sound. A slow pendulum swing plays individual notes.
Played together: the four tunings share the same harmonic coherence, so they can be layered in any order or combination without clashing. Two people can play two chimes at once, or a single practitioner can move between them.
In the wind: hang them in a sheltered outdoor spot, for example on a veranda or under a porch, or by an open window, and the breeze plays melodies of its own.
Meditation: use one chime to open and another to close a session.
Sound therapy and sound yoga: the set sits naturally alongside singing bowls, gongs and other harmonic instruments. Each chime is light enough to carry through the room, letting the sound circulate, mark a change of pace or guide listening toward silence.
Recording and musical use: tuned to 440 Hz, the collection accompanies other instruments and voices without retuning.

Why buy the Koshi Earth Symphony chimes as a set?
The four melodies were composed to answer one another. Bought together they give the full harmonic range of the collection, and because the tunings share the same harmonic coherence you can layer any two, three or all four without the sound becoming muddy. It is also the way the collection is meant to be heard.
How is Earth Symphony different from the original Koshi Terra, Aqua, Aria and Ignis?
The 4 Elements chimes have eight rods, a bamboo resonance tube and an adjusted 432 Hz tuning. The Earth Symphony chimes have twelve rods, four of them doubled at the same frequency as sympathetic resonators, fine-wood resonance chambers in walnut, oak, cherry and maple, and a 440 Hz tuning. The Earth Symphony sound is broader, deeper and longer.
Can Earth Symphony be played together with the 4 Elements chimes?
They are tuned to different references, 440 Hz against an adjusted 432 Hz, so they are not designed to be played simultaneously as one harmonic ensemble. Played in sequence, or in separate parts of a session, they complement each other well.
What is in the set?
Four chimes: Mountain in walnut tuned to E major, Forest in oak tuned to F# minor, River in cherry tuned to G# minor, and Ocean in maple tuned to a pentatonic B major. Each comes in its own Koshi box. Sound samples for all four are on this page.
Is this set suitable for sound healing and meditation practice?
Yes. It is used to open and close meditation, and in sound baths, sound yoga and relaxation alongside singing bowls and gongs. Having all four gives a practitioner a range of moods to work with in a single session, and the chimes are light enough to carry through the room.
