Koshi River: movement and hope. The Koshi River chime belongs to the new Earth Symphony collection, four chimes inspired by the great presences of Nature: Mountain, Forest, River and Ocean. Handcrafted and hand-tuned in the Koshi workshop at the foot of the French Pyrenees, tuned with reference to 440 Hz, with twelve rods instead of the eight found on the original 4 Elements Koshi chimes. The Koshi River melody

River has a fluid, flowing and positive character. Its melody may evoke movement, change and the current of a river that is never the same twice. The twelve rods extend the resonance and give River a broad, continuous, luminous sound.

The melody is in G# minor: D# D# G# G# A# A# B B D# G# A# B. Four of the twelve rods are doubled at the same frequency and act as sympathetic resonators, which gives the Earth Symphony chimes their extra depth and long, immersive resonance.

All four Earth Symphony melodies share the same harmonic coherence. River can be played alone or together with Mountain, Forest and Ocean in any combination, and because it is tuned to 440 Hz it sits easily alongside other instruments or voices in a musical piece.

How to use the Koshi River chime

• Basic playing: hold the chime by its cord and let it hang freely. A gentle turn of the wrist lets the central clapper set the rods in motion and release a cascade of fluid, luminous notes. The wider the movement, the more rods sound. A slow pendulum swing plays individual notes.
• In the wind: the chime can simply be hung outdoors, in a garden, on a terrace or by an open window, where the breeze plays melodies of its own.
• Meditation: use River to open and close a meditation session.
• Sound therapy and sound yoga: River sits naturally alongside singing bowls, gongs and other harmonic instruments. It is light enough to move through the room, let the sound travel, mark a change of pace or guide listening toward silence.
