Koshi Ocean: receptivity and infinity. The Koshi Ocean chime belongs to the new Earth Symphony collection, four chimes inspired by the great presences of Nature: Mountain, Forest, River and Ocean. Handcrafted and hand-tuned in the Koshi workshop at the foot of the French Pyrenees, tuned with reference to 440 Hz, with twelve rods instead of the eight found on the original 4 Elements Koshi chimes. The Koshi Ocean melody

Ocean has a vast, deep and welcoming character. Its pentatonic melody is inspired by the ocean and may evoke boundless expanse and the movement of the waves. The twelve rods extend the resonance and give Ocean a broad, continuous sound.

The melody is in pentatonic B major: C# D# D# F# F# B B C# D# F# B C#. A pentatonic scale is built on five main notes, which is why Ocean's phrases always resolve gently and never sound tense. Four of the twelve rods are doubled at the same frequency and act as sympathetic resonators, which gives the Earth Symphony chimes their extra depth and long, immersive resonance.

All four Earth Symphony melodies share the same harmonic coherence. Ocean can be played alone or together with Mountain, Forest and River, and brings a broader openness to the ensemble without breaking its balance. Because it is tuned to 440 Hz it sits easily alongside other instruments or voices in a musical piece.

How to use the Koshi Ocean chime

• Basic playing: hold the chime by its cord and let it hang freely. A gentle turn of the wrist lets the central clapper set the rods in motion and release a cascade of broad, enveloping notes. The wider the movement, the more rods sound. A slow pendulum swing plays individual notes.
• In the wind: the chime can simply be hung outdoors or by an open window, where the breeze plays melodies of its own.
• Meditation: use Ocean to open and close a meditation session.
• Sound therapy and sound yoga: Ocean sits naturally alongside singing bowls, gongs and other harmonic instruments. It is light enough to move through the room, let the sound travel, mark a change of pace or guide listening toward silence.
